PentiumD

I just played this guy- he was in the 7900s awhen we started. I must have played my ass off the first game because I pulled off a win, which netted me about 50 points. He then rattled off 19 stratight before I won another. Then he won #20 and quit.I was absolutely amazed at how fast he played. I couldn't really watch him since I was trying to win, but he made literally zero mistakes in the 22 matches we played. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I have never played anyone who dropped the first Tetris faster then me consistently, but this guy did. Even when I hit #1 as fast as him, I was still getting garbage. I think only once did I not get garbage from his first Tetris.
I wonder if I have it in me to someday be this good?

Consistency
2006-07-28 08:54:25
My biggest problem is consistency, which is why I usually gain points when I get matched up against high rated players. Players in the high 6000s are my worst enemies- one misdrop and I'll lose, costing me a lot of points.I got my shit together this morning and played some solid Tetris against several 7200-7400 players and took my rating above 7600 for the first time. We'll see if I can maintain.

BURNING ???
2006-07-10 19:32:32
I just ran into a player named BURNING that isn't listed anywhere on the scoreboard. He was in the 7900s at the time and I was extremely excited to finally get an opportunity to play such a high rated opponent. We split the first 4 games, then he rattled off about 30 in a row before I finally won another, after which he quit.
My nerves definitely got the best of me and I played some pretty horrid Tetris. Many times I would misdrop (auto-lose) and simply watch him play until he won, letting my pieces free-fall and buying extra time by swapping pieces to prolong the match.
I've always had aspirations of elevating my game to get to 8000, but I can't imagine ever playing as well as he did.

Push
2006-07-03 17:52:46
I decided to try some WiFi Push today. I won my first 3 mathes against opponents with ratings in the low 6000s. Then I got matched up against poor rusty with a 7600+ rating. I was determined to beat him, and I finally did after 12 loses. I eventually just gave up after going 1 for 15. He dominated most matches and I'm not sure how I pulled off a win.Push is so much different than standard mode. I guess I just need to practice if I want to get better.

Endless: 99,999,999
2006-07-02 22:55:10
I decided that I was going to do this and get it over with, and I started last night and played several small sessions through today. I'm not sure how long I played total, but I had just passed 34 million when I paused the game to do something. I guess I wasn't paying attention when I went to resume (or perhaps I am so used to constant pause/restarts in Line Clear mode) and I accidentally chose "restart" instead of "continue." A few hours completely wasted and nothing to show for it.... since I "restarted," it didn't keep the score as a high score.I don't know what caused me to decide to devote the time to 99,999,999, but this was definitey the only shot I was taking. I guess on the bright side, I only went about 1/3 of the way so that's probably about 7 hours I saved myself.
If you actually got any reward at all for getting 99,999,999, I might consider starting it up again. But you get nothing- no unlockables, no cool stats (like how long it took or how many total lines cleared, how many total tetrises, triples, doubles, and singles, how many total t-spins, etc), and it doesn't even save 99,999,999 in your high scores because of what must be a glitch. I've said it before and I'll say it again- this is a huge waste of time that proves nothiing.

It's official

All the time I spent playing single player (particularly mission and standard modes) has DEFINIETELY helped my WiFi game. I cruised to 7500 last night after playing two different 7400 players. I'm making fewer misdrops but most importantly, all the practice with t-spins in standard mode helped me notice when to make quick use of themPost Comment0 Comments
Single Player scores
2006-06-25 23:07:40
2006-06-25 23:06:25I really wasn't at all interested in single player until very recently. I've been working on my scores in lieu of playing WiFi (where my rating has been stuck around 7300 forever). Here's what I've got (* means top score on cyberscore):
Standard Marathon: 1,144,000
Standard Line Clear: 207,500
*Mission Marathon: 1,235,266
*Mission Time Trial 1: 0.44.00
*Mission Time Trial 2: 1.03.68
Mission Time Trial 3: 0.56.78
*Mission Time Trial 4: 1.17.16
*Mission Time Trial 5: 1.26.03
Catch: 12,039,770
*Max Detonation Surface Area: 98
Touch Tower 1: 19,600
Touch Tower 2: 17,300
Touch Tower 3: 25,000
Touch Tower 4: 9,600 (garbage)
Touch Tower 5: 6,900 (garbage)
Tetris Points: 27,254
-I'm still very bad at Touch Tower mode. At least I sorta know what I'm trying to do now.
-My Standard scores are Tetris-based. You need to exploit T-spins for higher scores. I need to practice setting up T-spins on 20g.
-I need to improve my Mission Time Trial 3 time by about 1.5 seconds. I've tried about a bazillion times and I'm still waiting for an "8, 9, and 10 in one hard drop each" miracle.
-I did play a little WiFi yesterday and I really do think that all the time I spent on Mission Time Trials has helped my WiFi game. Further testing to come.

cyberscore.net
2006-06-24 07:21:34
I've hardly played any WiFi for the past couple of weeks as I've been working very hard on my single player scores. I've improved them enough to be ranked #1 overall on cyberscore.net for Tetris DS:www.cyberscore.net
Out of the 17 records, I'm first in six: Mission Marathon, Mission Time Trials 1, 2, 4, and 5 (the closest thing to a sprint mode), and Catch Detonation Surface Area. I'm pretty bad at Touch Tower and I refuse to spend time playing Endless, so those are some of my worst scores. And Standard marathon/line clear require extreme t-spin abuse, which I haven't mastered at 20g yet.
I know that many of my scores have room for improvement, so I implore everyone to register for cyberscore.net (if necessary) and get their scores in. Surely some of you have some good scores. Hope to see you there.

OUCH!!!
2006-06-17 21:56:53
Well, I've made drastic improvements to my single player scores. I got my Time Trial Level 1 time down to 44.0 seconds and Catch Max Detonation Surface Area to an astounding 98. Both #1 on cyberscore.net.I decided to play some WiFi after not playing any for several days. Let's just say that I played so terribly that my rating dropped from 7450 to under 7100 in a matter of minutes. Ouch.
